Destinations
- Chetumal – We land here, flying from CDMX or train/bus from Can Cun. Capital of the Sate it is a small city with a museum of Maya Culture and offers a good walk on the Malecon (Promenade).
- Calakmul – Impressive archaeological site hidden in a remote location in the rainforest. We need to drive ~ 2hrs to Xpujil and from there are 60km on a “dirt track”, can take 1 to 2 hrs. Wikipedia Link
- Bacalar – (40 min drive from Chetumal) Beautiful and calm lagoon, we can rent kayaks or small sailboats to explore it, can get a boat tour and swim wherever we want in the clear water.
- Mahahual – (1:20 drive from Bacalar) Peaceful small town on the sea, ideal to explore on bicycle, great restaurants, chill atmosphere, ideal to relax.
- Tikal (Guatemala) – Huge Mayan Archaeological, can take 2 days to explore it all. There are shuttle busses from Chetumal (10hrs) to Flores/Tikal, Flores, is a the town next to Tikal, is an island on a lake, Very chill, beautiful, worth spending at least a day there.
